Prices are the lowest the maker listed on the date shown in each pick. “Not confirmed” means we did not find a price we could stand behind.
Quick answer: for a gift from someone’s home state, pick the state below and buy straight from the maker. Cheap picks start under $15 (Hammond’s candy canes in Colorado, Taza chocolate discs in Massachusetts, Wiffle Ball in Connecticut); keepsakes run from about $20 (a Red Land Cotton tea towel from Alabama) to $150 (L.L.Bean Boots from Maine). Each price is what the maker listed on the date shown in the pick.

States we have not covered yet
We do not yet list a checked maker in: Arkansas, Delaware, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming. We would rather leave a state empty than pad it with a weak claim. Makers in these states can tell us about their products; we never charge to be listed.

FAQ
How do you pick a maker for each state?
We look for a maker that says on its own website where it makes the product, then link that page. If the claim is thin (for example, only an address), the pick is marked Level 1 and the catch is spelled out in the pick. We would rather leave a state empty than list a weak claim.
Which states don’t have a pick yet?
As of October 21, 2026, we have not listed a checked maker in Arkansas, Delaware, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia or Wyoming. We add states as we check them.
Does “made in” a state mean every ingredient or material comes from there?
No. Taza and Bedré make chocolate in Massachusetts and Oklahoma from imported cacao, Simms builds its waders in Montana from imported GORE-TEX fabric, and Red Land Cotton has its Alabama cotton spun, woven and dyed in other states. Each pick says what the maker does and does not claim.
Can a maker pay to be listed here?
No. We never charge to be listed in this guide. Makers can tell us about their products, and any paid spotlight elsewhere on the site is labeled.
