What we changed and rechecked

Prices and origin claims go stale, so we recheck them in batches on the makers’ own sites. This log lists what we added, what we rechecked and what changed, newest first. Each pick also shows the date its price was last checked.

We record prices and origin claims only. Check the maker’s site for the current price before you buy.

  • Added six states, so the gifts by state guide now covers 42 of 50: Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico and Utah. Each maker’s claim and price were read on its own site that day.
  • Rechecked prices on the makers’ own sites for Leatherman (Raptor Rescue, Skeletool CX, Wave+), Lodge, Field Company, Darn Tough, Wigwam, Zippo, Case, Fiesta, Fox River, O&H Danish Bakery and American Giant. The only change was American Giant’s marked-down women’s colors, which now run $78 to $128.
  • Re-read the origin pages for ten of those makers. No claim changed. For Fiesta we now quote its sustainability page for the line that 100% of its products are made in the USA.
  • Took out old notes about whether a few picks were sold on Amazon. That changes too often to print.

New picks:

  • Added seven states (Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana), taking the gifts by state guide from 29 to 36.
  • Rechecked prices for Buck, Crazy Aaron’s, Pendleton, Red Wing, Rite in the Rain, Smithey, Blenko and Maple Landmark on the makers’ own sites. Blenko and Maple Landmark changed and were updated.
  • Added quick answers and FAQs to the by-state, stocking stuffer and Wisconsin guides.

New picks:

  • Published gifts for grandparents.
  • Swapped photos that did not show the actual product for plain title cards, and added a “Best for” column to guide tables.
