Prices are the lowest the maker listed on the date shown in each pick. “Not confirmed” means we did not find a price we could stand behind.

Wisconsin has some of the most recognizable American-made gifts: cheese, sausage, pastry, socks and cast iron. These picks come from makers that say they make things here. Each one links to the maker's own statement, and where a gift is perishable or a line is mixed we say so.

We have not visited these makers or tasted or tested the products. See how we check origin. For Midwest picks beyond Wisconsin, browse the maker directory.

Carr Valley Cheese

Carr Valley Cheese Company · La Valle, WI

What the maker says
Carr Valley says it has made Wisconsin cheese since 1902 and now operates four cheese plants in Wisconsin, with its original plant address at S3797 County G in La Valle. Source: Carr Valley: About us
Caveat
The company page names Wisconsin plants but not which plant makes which cheese. Gift boxes may include non-cheese items from other makers, so check the contents list.
Why it makes a good gift
An easy Wisconsin gift: an aged cheddar or a goat cheddar from a master cheesemaker, shipped in a box.

O&H Danish Bakery kringle

O&H Danish Bakery · Racine, WI

What the maker says
O&H says the Olesen family has baked kringle in Racine, Wisconsin since 1949, and that it still bakes all of its pastries with scratch methods. Source: O&H: A Family Tradition
Caveat
Origin here is where the pastry is baked, not where each ingredient is grown. Shipping time matters for a fresh pastry, so check the delivery date.
Why it makes a good gift
Kringle is Wisconsin's official state pastry (the bakery's page says so), and a mailed kringle is a classic Midwest gift.

Usinger's sausage

Usinger's Famous Sausage · Milwaukee, WI

What the maker says
Usinger's says the family has made sausage in Milwaukee, Wisconsin since 1880, from its downtown location and a nearby production facility next to its Walker's Point distribution center. Source: Usinger's: Our History
Caveat
Origin means where the sausage is made. Usinger's does not say where every ingredient comes from. Perishable gifts need cold-pack shipping, so check the delivery date.
Why it makes a good gift
A Milwaukee sausage maker since 1880. A summer-sausage and cheese box is about as Wisconsin as a gift gets.

Perishable gifts need a delivery date you can count on. Order early in December and check the shipping cutoff the maker publishes.

Wigwam socks

Wigwam Mills · Sheboygan, WI

What the maker says
Wigwam says it is proud to knit its socks in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA, and that it sources its wool almost exclusively from American yarn spinners. Source: Wigwam: About
Caveat
That statement is about its socks. Check the label if you are buying anything else from the brand.
Why it makes a good gift
A Wisconsin sock mill that has been going since 1905. A good stocking stuffer for hunters, hikers and anyone with cold feet.

Field Skillet

Field Company · Production in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin

What the maker says
Field says every piece of its cast iron cookware is made in the USA, with production and fulfillment in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Its headquarters is in New York. Source: Field Company: Where Are Field Skillets Made?
Caveat
Field does not name its foundry on that page. A design firm that worked with Field has described the pans as cast at a Wisconsin foundry, then machined and seasoned in Indiana.
Why it makes a good gift
Field highlights a smooth machined cooking surface and a lightweight design (it says a finished No. 8 weighs 4.3 lbs). A good pick for someone who finds old-school cast iron too heavy.
